Reason To Hope
‘Reason to hope’ is a program geared to empowering individuals and communities to cope with the threat of issues related to maladjustment, peer pleasure, stress, low self esteem, drug and substance abuse, mental wellness among others that are manifesting daily in our modern lifestyles.
Stress in modern life today is on the rise due to traumatic events like; rising insecurity and conflicts, family breakdowns, effects of drugs and substance abuse, pressure at school/work, unemployment, and high cost of living among others. This has resulted in decreased productivity, low or non performance, addictions, increased violence, and these challenges left unattended has resulted to escalating cases of mental ill health that we are seeing around us every day.
Our approach is holistic, integrating psychosocial, spiritual, biomedical needs of the persons affected. We do this by mobilization of public, private, faith based and individuals willing to partner and/or support the program.
These include professional and non-professional personnel and volunteer services.
Our Approach
1. The Reason To Hope
2. The Use of Positive Affirmations
3. The Use of family dynamics
The Reason to Hope Program (RTH) was brought together by love and concern for those in the community struggling to achieve psychosocial wellness. Society’s continued scuffle for resources has created increasingly individualistic individuals who feel that their prospects are few. This leads to communities and eventually entire nations that cannot visualize a future that they belong in. They then engage in alcohol and drug abuse and are overtaken by addictions such as gambling and pornography.
Reason to Hope is here to spread a gospel of hope. To show people that all you need is to take a step of faith to find hope of a better life. RTH believes that rehabilitation that takes a person away from the community to facilitate healing is not holistic. Communities need to be involved to deal with their members that have fallen way. Our program seeks to train the community in doing so. We partner with institutions such as places of worship, schools, hospitals and community groups to train the public on how to transform dysfunctional people into useful members of society.
Mental wellness relates to all facets of life and it is important for us to focus on it to build healthy and productive communities.
Dysfunctional members of society have worn the labels that have been given to them and made them their beliefs. The people around them need to be taught how to bring them back into the fold with care.
Most do not know that they are lost and are comfortable with their lives as they are. The community needs to know what is required to engage these people and to make them feel like they belong. It is important to understand that they are intelligent beings that once had hopes, dreams and aspirations.
Hopelessness is like a disease that can spread from one person to another and people are in dire need of positive affirmation. Reason to Hope Kenya looks to arrest it through teaching introspection of the individual and then in families because they are the primary unit of society.
Why we focus so much on the strength of the family
1. To recognize and to make productive the specific strength and abilities of each family member.
2. To equip families with skills to enable them to carry out the daily challenges and tasks of life, as well as adjusting to developmental needs of its members.
3. To strengthen the uniqueness in each family as well as creating an understanding that all families are alike in their underlying patterns. E.g. pain, love and loss.
4. To bring to un understanding the dramatically changing patterns of family life cycles and how to create a bridge to avoid disconnection and loss of family values.
5. Enhance problem solving mechanism so as to be able to overcome challenges and be strong when faced with risk factors.
